Reaction-diffusion in trypanosomiasis-malaria co-infection transmission dynamics
Abstract
An epidemic model for trypanosomiasis-malaria co-infection dynamics is formulated to study the effect of diffusion on the disease dynamics. The basic reproduction number is calculated using the next generation matrix approach. The local stability of the spatially homogeneous disease-free equilibrium of both the trypanosomiasis and malaria aspect of the model are obtained through Routh-Hurwitz criteria. The local asymptotically stability of the spatially homogeneous disease-free equilibrium of the co-infection is also examined. The global stability of the spatially homogeneous disease free-equilibrium is established by using a suitable Lyapunov functional.
